Abstract: In processes like cold rolling, shear banding plays an essential role in obtaining desired crystallographic texture. This work explores the modelling of shear band forma tion and the effect of orientation through single crystal simulations. The effect of crystal orientation and crystallographic anisotropy on shear band formation is explored through phase-field damage modelling, and it is observed that the orientation affects shear band thickness and at what strain the shear band is formed but not particularly the angle of shear bands. However, this model can not predict texture evolution inside shear bands, so modelling of shear band formation is explored through crystal plasticity modelling. It is realized that modelling shear bands through crystal plasticity alone is not possible, and both crystallographic and noncrystallographic mechanisms need to be considered in modelling to simulate shear band formation.
