dc.description.abstractNanoindentation-based approaches have been used to analyze and determine the mechanical characteristics of metals, alloys, ceramics, etc. The electrical and mechanical characteristics of materials like piezoelectric materials, which are anisotropic in nature and include actuation and sensing capabilities, have been measured and understood using indentation-based approaches. In practice, 45 various material factors might influence an elastically anisotropic and piezoelectric material’s indentation response ( 21 elastic, 18 piezoelectric, and 6 dielectric properties). The relationship between indentation response and material properties are found by: (a) systematic models for simple piezoelectric materials; and (b) FEM are created to get an idea about the properties of complex piezoelectric materials. The purpose of this study is to learn everything there is to know about the key material parameters that define the load-displacement indentation responses of piezoelectric materials. A 3-D and 2-D (axisymmetric) finite element models were used to investigate the nanoindentation of piezoelectric materials (such as PZT and PZT-4).en_US
