This paper presents a robust security methodology for protecting the ownership rights of intellectual property (IP) vendor along with IP buyer, in hardware IP cores using facial biometric. The proposed approach, firstly embeds the facial biometric signature of IP buyer, in the form of secret hardware security constraints during behavioral synthesis. Subsequently, post obtaining the embedding design with IP buyer signature, the facial biometric signature of IP vendor is embedded, thereby enabling symmetrical protection. The proposed approach offers the following a) protection of IP rights of IP seller and IP buyer symmetrically b) the embedded signature of IP vendor can also be used to detect the pirated IP cores. The proposed approach achieves the following i) symmetrical protection of ownership rights with zero design cost overhead ii) lesser probability of coincidence (Pc) than state of the art approaches. © 2022 IEEE.en_US
