Abstract: Over the past few years, ionic liquids (ILs) are known as green solvents or catalysts and have received potential interest for their application in sustainable technologies. Non-volatility, non-corrosiveness, excellent solvents or catalysts, and high thermal stability are some of the characteristics of physical and chemical properties which make ILs appear to significantly meet the biological, thermal, chemical, and physical criteria of various applications. ILs are increasingly used in various fields, especially in CO2 capture, catalysis, electrochemical fields, biopharmacy, and others, and thus attracting progressively industrial and academic research. However, for additional improvement, explicit applications for which characteristic properties mentioned prior become unique must be examined. Thus, through robust studies of ILs unique properties, preeminent applications for ILs would be determined. This chapter will provide a glimpse of the required literature to a wide range of readers. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
