Joint radar and communication (JRC) is an upcoming technology to fulfill the need for spectrum requirement for next generation wireless communication by sharing the available radar spectrum with communication system. Millimeter wave frequency above the 28-30 GHz with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna are being suggested to be used for JRC system. However, to cancel mutual interference, and enhance spectral efficiency, designing a transmit precoder is necessary. In order to design a precoder to meet the requirement of JRC, the knowledge of channel state information (CSI) is essential. Thus, in this work, we estimate the channel using least squares and minimum mean square error based estimators for for sub-arrayed mmWave MIMO JRC system and after that hybrid and digital precoders are designed. Simulation results of spectral efficiency and energy efficiency versus signal-to-noise ratio are provided by using the above estimators and new insights are drawn as performance is compared with the ideal case of perfect CSI. © 2023 IEEE.en_US
