Abstract: In the field of meteorological research, accurately measuring and characterizing precipitation in high-altitude and high-precipitation regions presents significant challenges. Our comprehensive study investigated the dynamic nature of rain microphysics in different rain types in the orographic rain regions and their effects on the precipitation estimation., revealing intriguing patterns. Additionally, it explored the identification and occurrences of collisional drop breakup in different rain types, focusing on complex orographic region of North-East India for the first time. The findings underscore the rarity of the onset of equilibrium in collisional breakup in natural orographic rain, with a more significant impact observed in convective rain types within orographic rainfall patterns. The study also delved into the impact of collisional drop breakup on Z-R relationships, where coefficients were found to be significantly different for the break-up and non-break up cases in different rain types, highlighting its significance in orographic rain over North-Eastern India, especially in Radar Quantitative Precipitation Estimates.
