Visible light communication (VLC) is an energy-efficient, green, and low-cost emerging technology for high-speed next-generation communication systems, complementing the existing radio-frequency-based technologies. In this work, we analyze the performance of an optical simultaneously transmitting and reflecting-reflected intelligent surface (OSTAR-RIS) aided VLC system based on a color shift keying (CSK) modulation scheme. The effect of practical constraints such as, light emitting diode (LED) non-linearity, absence of line-of-sight (LoS) link and ambient noise is considered. A DNN-based symbol detector is proposed for VLC systems impaired by LED non-linearity. For performance analysis, a closed-form expression of the achieved bit error rate (BER) is derived. Further, the impact of impairments and other parameters on the system performance are highlighted. Simulation results demonstrate superiority of the CSK modulation scheme over the traditional on-off-keying (OOK) scheme in terms of both BER and data rates. © 2012 IEEE.en_US
