Abstract: Soybean (Glycin max (L.) Merrill) is one of the major oil producing cash crop and Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the major staple crop. Timely growth stages and biophysical parameter monitoring plays crucial role in the yield assessment. In this work, we explore the Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data backscatter (VH and VV) and derived vegetation indices, namely DpRVI to estimate soybean biomass and Wheat biomass. We have also used optical based vegetation indice NDVI for wheat crop. We investigate the correlation between SAR parameters and In-situ collected data (vegetation water content, dry biomass, and wet biomass) during the soybean and wheat growth cycle. The results indicate a substantial correlation near the harvesting stage compared to other growth stages. VH backscatter and DpRVI index found to be better correlated with the vegetation water content of soybean and wheat with R2 = 0.10 and R2 = 0.14 respectively. © 2024 IEEE.
