Abstract: | Ions or molecules that formally donate at least one electron pair to the metal center are called ligands.[1] The electronic as well as steric properties of ligands can greatly influence the metal-ligand bonding interaction(s).[2] So it is not surprising that the field of organometallic and transition-metal coordination chemistry have been greatly enriched by design and synthesis of new ligands. The diversities in structures and reactivity of ligands have dominated the synthesis of broad spectrum of transition metal coordination and organometallic complexes. The synthesized compounds can show enormous potential to get utilized in material industries (polymers), pharmaceuticals (drug development) and biomedical applications (Figure 1).[3-6] Apart from that, these transition metal complexes can also play significant roles in catalysis (organic transformation), sensing and different biological processes and as metalloenzyme mimics. |
