This paper presents a 2.5-dimensional (2.5-D) based miniaturized-element frequency selective surface (FSS) using closed loop meander geometry. The structure is made of meander lines orthogonally patterned on the opposite sides of a dielectric material, and the imprints are connected by metallic vias at the corners, thereby increasing the current path. This results in a compact topology, having unit cell sizes of 0.053λ0 × 0.053λ0, where λ0is the operating wavelength at resonance frequency of 1.60 GHz. Further, the proposed design is angularly stable and polarization-insensitive for both TE and TM polarizations. Several parametric variations and an equivalent circuit model have been studied to investigate the miniaturization characteristic of the proposed 2.5-D FSS structure. © 2019 IEEE.en_US
