In this work, we propose theoretical expressions of the moments for instantaneous signal to noise ratio (SNR), the amount of fading, and the average symbol error rate (ASER) for rectangular quadrature amplitude modulation (RQAM), 32-cross QAM, differentially encoded quadri-phase shift keying and π/ 4 -QPSK modulation schemes in multiple amplify-and-forward relay network for maximal ratio combining receiver. To measure the number of independent fading paths over the channel, we provide asymptotic analysis of ASER expression for RQAM at high SNR. The impact of system parameters is also highlighted on the performance metrics. To investigate the correctness of theoretical expressions, we compare numerical results with Monte’ Carlo simulations. © 2017, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.en_US
