dc.description.abstract | In the present study, the fretting wear behaviour of newly developed Aluminium alloys have been investigated using a pin on plate arrangement under different environmental conditions. Aluminium alloy of three different compositions i.e. base alloy comprising Al-Si-Ni-Cu, base alloy with Ti and base alloy with Zr have been developed by Vacuum arc melting cum casting unit under Argon gas atmosphere. As casted alloys were heat treated for homogenization and for grain refinement to improve the mechanical properties. Metallurgical properties and mechanical properties were studied by Optical microscopy and Rockwell hardness tester on scale B respectively. Fretting wear tests were carried out at different temperatures (room temperature, 100°C, 150°C and 200°C). It has been found that the addition of Zr to the base Al alloy shows improved hardness and wear resistance compared to the other two alloys even at higher temperatures. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
