Abstract: High entropy alloys (HEAs) are the new breed of engineering materials showing excellent mechanical properties for potential applications in structural and transportation sector. Recently, a lot of emphases have been given by the researchers to synthesize a light weight HEAs to increase the energy efficiency in various applications. In this review, the criterions for the formation of simple solid solution microstructure for HEAs, there synthesis and difficulties in fabrication of light weight HEAs have been discussed. Further, the microstructure and properties of some previously synthesized light weight HEAs have been compared in details. © 2018 IOP Publishing Ltd.
