The present work describes the antimicrobial activity of biosynthesized gold nanoparticles (AuNP). AuNP have been synthesized using Aspergillus foetidus as source reducing and stabilizing agent. The synthesized green nanoparticles have been characterized using various physicochemical techniques and results as obtained clearly confirmed the formation of AuNP. The antimicrobial activity of green synthesized AuNP has been tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli strain. The results obtained clearly showed that green synthesized AuNP possess moderate antibacterial activity against above mentioned gram positive and negative species. The growth of microbial strain has also been tested in presence of green synthesized AuNP and results as obtained suggested that there is no drastic change in growth of E. coli and S. aureus in the presence of nanoparticles.
