Abstract: Bacterial infections are growing problems towards human health. The repetitive use of antibiotics leads to antibiotic resistance. Therefore, a replacement for antibiotics is essential to combat bacterial infections. Inherently antibacterial hydrogels serve as a suitable alternative for antibiotics. Herein we have formulated an inherently antibacterial K+ selective G-quadruplex hydrogel via multicomponent reaction between guanosine, 4-FPBA and a cytosine substituted nucleopeptide. The self assembly process for gelation was characterized via fluorescence studies, CD spectra and PXRD pattern, FT-IR and 11B NMR spectra. The morphology of the gel was analyzed by SEM images. The injectable and printable property was also investigated. Further the antibacterial property of the hydrogel was evaluated on S.aureus and B.subtilis. bacteria. The newly formulated hydrogel shows significant antibacterial property against these bacteria.
