Abstract: With the booming increase in automobile usage every year, there has been a major energy shortage and a rapid increase in environmental po11ution. There is a significant concern about developing environmentally friendly vehicles powered by renewable sources of energy. Electric Vehicle Technology (EV) has shown a new dimension due to its environmentally friendly and low acoustic properties. The absence of an Internal combustion engine (ICE) in electric vehic1es also makes it quieter than conventional vehic1es. However, other components of electric vehicles contribute to noise, such as motor noise, fan noise, and structure-borne noise. The primary factor that needs to be addressed in electric vehicles is reducing the produced noise. Humans are more prone to the noise spectrum produced by electric vehicles as it lies in a different frequency range in comparison to that of the traditional ICEs. The motor is the prominent source of noise in the electric powertrain system, and the detailed analysis of which helps in controlling the noise produced by electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are predominantly driven by permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) because of their high power density and greater efficiency. One of the crucial factors of PMSM noise is the appropriate amalgam of pole and slot. Therefore, we aim to study the effect of the slot-pole combination on the noise in PMSMs. The methodology includes developing two structural models of PMSM with different slot-pole combinations, followed by electromagnetic force analysis in the time and frequency domains, and then vibroacoustic analysis. The effect of the slot-pole combination on the noise in PMSM is explored, analyzed, and visualized.
