Abstract: Present work of this thesis stems from our interest in exploring structural and biological properties of copper – Schiff base complexes and copper non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug compounds (NSAID). Copper (II) complexes of four non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) i.e. aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and diclofenac with NNO donor ligand (E)-2-(1-((2-(diethylamino) ethyl)amino)ethyl)phenol (HL) have been synthesized. All the complexes are characterized with the help of ESI-MS, IR spectroscopy. X-ray crystallography studies done for complex 1, [Cu2(L)2(asp)]ClO4 and revealed that complex [Cu2(L)2(asp)]ClO4 is monoclinic in nature with square pyramidal geometry around copper centers. Interaction of all the complexes with proteins (BSA, HSA), and DNA was studied to establish their potent role as metal-drug system. Cytotoxicity assay was performed for all the complexes on cancer cell lines A549 and MCF7 using MTT dye.
