Abstract: Recent developments in microgrid has introduced various new challenges in stability of power system. One of them is decreasing inertia due to the growing penetration of Distributed Generators (DGs) in the grid. Concept of implementation of virtual inertia in control of these converters is currently a topic of wide interest. One of the control strategies to implement virtual inertia is synchronverter. DGs use, mostly, renewable sources (PV and Wind turbines) and hence need power electronic converters to integrate them with grid. Stability of operation depends on the control scheme used in these converters. This paper develops a small signal state space model for synchronverter operating in islanded mode. Modelling is done individually for power calculation block, synchronverter, LC filter with coupling inductor, and loads. These sub-modules are then combined to get the complete model of the system, and the eigenvalue analysis is performed. Further, the system is simulated in RSCAD and Controller Hardware-In-Loop (CHIL) study is performed to validate the proposed control in islanded mode. © 2022 IEEE.
