Abstract: | The field of supramolecular chemistry in pharmaceutical sciences is quite young and developing rapidly as a wide variety of physiological reactions as well as and activities are based on the supramolecular chemistry. Supramolecules are the molecular solids and offer a way to adjust the physical properties of subset involved without changing the structure of compound. The synthesis of pharmaceutical supramolecules can provide an easy way to influence the solid-state properties of a lead molecule especially its solubility and bioavailability. Hence, the drugs based on supramolecules might be an alternative for existing pharmaceutical formulations, as supramolecules facilitate the improvement of physicochemical and pharmacological properties. This chapter will provide a brief introduction of supramolecules and their current development in the field of pharmaceutical science. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022. |
