Abstract: | The increasing concerns over environmental pollution and global warming have emphasized the urgent need to transition from non-renewable energy sources, such as fossil fuels, to renewable alternatives. Among these alternatives, hydrogen fuel has gained significant attention due to its high energy density and zero-emission properties. Green hydrogen generation through electrolysis or water splitting offers a promising pathway for sustainable hydrogen production. However, one of the major challenges in electrolysis is the high electricity consumption associated with the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). To address this challenge and enhance the energy efficiency of hydrogen production, the development of highly efficient catalysts, that are abundant, low-cost materials with high catalytic activity and a large surface area, which can significantly reduce the overpotential required for the HER, leading to enhanced energy efficiency during water electrolysis. Transition Metal based phosphorous alloys with impressive electrocatalytic properties are getting attention as a means of enhancing the efficacy and durability of catalysts. Among them Ni-Co-P alloys have shown impressive electrocatalytic properties for the HER. |
