Abstract: The addition of elemental Boron to as-cast Ti6Al4V (Ti64) causes significant grain refinement and precipitation of whisker-shaped TiB particles at the grain boundaries. The current study is focused on investigating the high strain rate compression behavior of Boron-modified as-cast Ti64 alloys having 0 to 0.55 wt% Boron. The experiments are conducted at 2000 and 5000s?1 strain rates using a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) setup. Stressstrain plots and post-deformation microstructures were analyzed to identify the governing mechanisms. It is observed that for both strain rates, the flow stress increases with increasing B content, except for the 0.04B sample due to its unique microstructural features. The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
