Abstract: | This paper presents a differential substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed slot antenna for vehicle-to-vehicle/everything (V2V/V2X) communication. The geometry comprises two rectangular patch antennas each of them being fed using an inset feed, which are connected through a meandered transmission line. This meander line reduces the antenna size as well as improves radiation characteristics. In addition, two U-shaped slots and four shorting pins are implemented to regulate the operating frequency and input impedance. The geometry resonates at 5.87 GHz, intending to operate at the dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) band (5.85-5.925 GHz). The structure has also been fabricated, and 10 dB return loss fractional impedance bandwidth (FIBW) of 2.38%, isolation of more than 7.43 dB, simulated gain of 4.58 dBi, efficiency of 73%, front-to-back ratio of 18.68 dB, and cross-polarization level below -11.4 dB have been achieved at 5.87 GHz. © 2024 IEEE. |
