Abstract: This paper presents a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) based antenna geometry aiming to achieve a wide axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) for the n261 (27.5-28.35 GHz) band of mm-wave communication. The antenna design incorporates two perpendicular elliptical slots etched on the top layer of the SIW structure. Through meticulous adjustments in the ellipticity of the slots as well as their locations relative to the SIW cavity axis, the antenna exhibits a wideband right-handed circularly polarized (RHCP) radiation spanning from 27.2 to 28.7 GHz. The performance includes a commendable peak gain of 5.8 dBic in the broadside direction. Notably, the proposed antenna boasts a simple single-layer topology, and low cross-polarization behavior, thereby making it suitable for mm-wave applications. © 2024 IEEE.
