Abstract: Recent developments show that aerial-platform-based free space optics (FSO) systems play a crucial role in bridging the digital divide and empowering futuregeneration wireless networks by providing ubiquitous connectivity. However, existing aerial-platform-based systems primarily rely on radio frequency (RF) with limited bandwidth, which poses a major bottleneck for further increase in data rates. FSO communications have emerged as an alternative candidate due to its large license-free bandwidth. Although FSO communications can deliver high data rates, they are vulnerable to atmospheric and weather effects. Therefore, enhancing the usability of the FSO link is essential for fully leveraging its higher transmission rates. This research aims to design and analyse aerial-platform-based FSO communication system that can attain high throughput, while ensuring the reliability requirements for future-generation wireless systems.
