dc.description.abstract | The chapter highlights the current energy needs scenario in the building and transport sector. Sustainable concepts like green buildings, solar energy for heating and cooling, and passive solar heating can significantly alleviate the surge in energy demand worldwide in buildings. Moreover, utilization of smart materials like thermochromic glass and phase change material is promising for obtaining thermal comfort. Use of biodiesel and ethanol as an alternative fuel for diesel and petrol engines, respectively, is a renewable and environmental friendly way of dealing with the energy requirements of future generations. Electric vehicles offer some hope for a clean and long-term solution, but they are still in their initial phase. Development in battery technology will boost their use in the near future. More research and development, improved and innovative government policies can provide sustainable energy for building and transportation. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd. All rights reserved. | en_US |
