Abstract: | Wireless multi-hop ad hoc networks are self-organizing networks that can be sponta- neously deployed without any need of xed infrastructure. In order to enable communica- tion, network nodes share their resources to store and forward other nodes data packets. However, the current hardware technology signi cantly limits the battery power network nodes run on. As a result, designing energy-e cient networking algorithms is of para- mount importance for the viability of this type of networks. In previous work, we have studied networking algorithms that rely on packet redundancy to provide fair communi- cation. This approach can signi cantly increase the number of transmissions and have a severe impact on the energy e ciency. Our main goal is to devise novel algorithms that e ciently handle packet redundancy in order to reduce the related energy costs without compromising the overall performance. We focus on to reduce the number of transmis- sions in order to save energy. To achieve this goal, three approaches have formulated. On of them is sense the network more than transmit, as transmission is costlier a air than sensing the network. Hence, algorithm limits the transmission of packets and reduce the replication of them. Packet redundancy not only spend more energy but also increase congestion in network, which result in adding average packet end to end delay and cut- back network lifetime. Second algorithm reduces the congestion in network whereas third algorithm helps in optimizing the packet ow from one node to another. |
