As a narrative based on the recollection of memories, the memoir is a site of performance for the mediated selves of extraordinary individuals and celebrities like Madhur Jaffrey, who use it as a platform to extend their professional influence through the performance of their public personas. This article delves into Jaffrey’s memoir Climbing the Mango Trees (2006), examining it for its narrative strategies that connect to her present professional status as an international expert on Indian cuisine. The article argues that the narrative strategy of her memoir is derived from her extensive experience hosting cookery shows and, therefore, features characteristics like direct address, building of familiarity, and drawing of authenticity. The article contends that such a narrative approach facilitates the fusion between her identity as an Indian immigrant and her profession as a cookbook author and TV personality. Additionally, the article establishes how the memoir links thematically to her long list of cookbooks and cookery shows, showcasing a cohesive structure and narrative that reinforce her persona as a celebrity with expertise in Indian cuisine. © 2025 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.en_US
