Abstract: | Abstract: The effect of temperature on texture, recrystallization volume fraction, and mechanical properties of hot rolled Mg–0.4 wt %Bi alloys has been studied. The alloys rolled at individual temperatures of 200 and 400°C, and subsequently annealed at 150°C for 10 min exhibit bimodal microstructure which possesses primarily the coarse deformed grains with basal texture and fine recrystallized grains with weak basal texture. Moreover, 〈c + a〉 non-basal dislocations are found to exist near the grain boundaries and these non-basal dislocations are expected to assist the nucleation of recrystallized grains with random orientations in the recrystallization process. The volume fraction of recrystallized region is found to increase with rolling temperature and during subsequent annealing period. However, when the alloy was rolled at temperatures of 400°C and annealed at 250°C for 10 min, entire region of matrix was recrystallized with weak basal formation. Segregation of Bi is found to exist only at a few grain boundaries. Furthermore, the latter alloy is observed to show better ductility properties than the former alloys. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. 2025. |
