This paper reports laser cladding of Co–Cr–Mo (CCM) alloy on the AISI4130 base plate in terms of dilution of deposition with base plate, cladding layer thickness, microstructure, the evolution of phases, microhardness, and abrasion resistance. Phase analysis by X-ray diffraction revealed that laser-cladded CCM alloy consists of ε-Co, γ-Co, chromium-rich (i.e., Cr<inf>23</inf>C<inf>6</inf> and Cr<inf>7</inf>C<inf>3</inf> carbides), and tungsten carbide (W<inf>2</inf>C) phases. It also exhibited moderate values of microhardness and higher scratch hardness number as compared to plasma arc-based CCM-cladded samples. The outcome of this study found that laser cladding will offer an economical and supportable resolution for good and uniform quality cladding of CCM alloy on metallic base plates. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.en_US
