Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) now connects all systems, and next-generation communication systems will rely solely on sensors to collect data and obtain information. However, a major challenge is to provide a reliable power supply to the IoT sensors via batteries. It is widely known that various sources, such as satellites and cell towers, emit radio frequency (RF) signals into the environment. The method of simultaneously harvesting RF energy and decoding information, known as simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), offers a solution to this problem. In this experimental study, two Universal Software Radio Peripherals (USRPs), an energy harvester and a variety of antennas were utilized. The SWIPT technique was applied to fundamental modulation schemes, including Amplitude Modulation (AM) and Frequency Modulation (FM). The primary objective of these implementations was to demonstrate the practical applications of the SWIPT approach. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
