This chapter discusses pyroelectric catalysis applications in various fields, such as disinfection, water treatment, hydrogen generation, and medical areas (tumor treatment and dental care). Pyroelectric materials produce polarization in response to temperature changes, and this polarization can be used for catalytic processes that are more efficient and versatile than other methods. Pyroelectric catalysis has been proven effective in removing contaminants and pathogens from water, making it a viable alternative to traditional water treatment methods. It is also used in water splitting and holds potential for efficient hydrogen production, contributing to renewable energy solutions. Moreover, pyroelectric catalysis has shown notable improvements in tumor therapy by reducing tumor size and tooth cleaning by effectively removing plaque and stains. The ongoing advancement of pyroelectric catalysis is expected to provide a sustainable solution to global water treatment, energy production, and healthcare challenges. © 2026 Elsevier Ltd.
