Abstract: In the present work, the focus has been given to the synthesis of nitrogen and oxygen containing ligands and gelators molecules. The ligand HL1 was utilized in the synthesis of the metal complex [Co(phen)2 2-((2-cyanophenyl)amino)acetate]ClO4 (C1) which crystallizes in P -1 space group in a triclinic system having an octahedral geometry. The metal complex (C1) showed good anion sensing ability towards the sulfide ion. The detection limit was calculated to be 4.8 μM. It also showed interactions with HSA and BSA, opening a lot of further possibilities for its application as a drug molecule. Herein, a successful synthesis of an organic gelator was also achieved, which forms gel in organic solvents such as DMSO on the addition of a small amount of water and in presence of metal ions it forms metallogels. All the characterizations have been done using mass spectrometry, NMR, IR, UV-Vis, and single crystal XRD.
