Abstract: The work described in this thesis concerns the synthesis of 5-(1-oxoisoindolin-2-yl)isophthalic acid (H2L). The H2L was synthesized by substitution reaction of diethyl-5-aminoisophthalate and 2-(bromomethyl)benzonitrile in acetonitrile solvent (alkaline medium). H2L has been characterized by 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy and Mass spectrometry. Further H2L was utilized with dpe and azodpe co-linker in presence of Zn(NO3)2.6H2O under hydrothermal condition gave two novel Zn-CPs (coordination polymers), IITI-2 and IITI-3 with 1D and 2D structure, respectively. These two CPs were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD). We further examined the energy storage properties of 2D IITI-3 through Cyclic Voltammetry (CV).
