Abstract: This chapter is a brief literature review of current research on metal oxides and metal @ metal oxides, which helped me to understand the research gaps and perform my research on low cost, environmentally friendly ZnO nanostructure and Au@ZnO nano-hetero-architectures for multifunctional applications. It covers an overview of applications such as field electron emission, gas sensing, and photocatalytic watersplitting using nano-hetero-architecture. The motivation and objectives of the research work are briefed at the end of the chapter.
