| Abstract: | Harvesting and identifying waste thermal energy by converting it into electrical energy presents a cost-efficient solution for contemporary electrical devices and sensor applications. Pyroelectric energy generation has garnered significant interest due to its promising applications as a power generator. This chapter explores the conversion of waste heat into electricity by applying the linear and Olsen cycles on pyroelectric materials. The focus is on developing pyroelectric energy generators for energy harvesting systems that draw energy from environmental or artificial sources, such as solar energy, body heat, and heaters or waste heat. The different prototypes and their parameters influencing the linear and Olsen cycles are presented. Additionally, the chapter discusses the development of hybrid energy harvesters. The innovative hybrid generator, integrating pyroelectric, piezoelectric, and triboelectric effects, signifies a novel approach to self-powered devices. Finally, recommendations for suitable materials and devices for pyroelectric generators are provided. © 2026 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. |
